Wada stripped of art recommendation prize
Japanese painter Yoshihiko Wada was stripped of the education
minister's prize he won in this spring's art recommendations.
The Agency for Cultural Affairs made the decision after
concluding he appeared to be plagiarizing works of Italian
artist Alberto Sughi.

＜ミニ解説＞
「strip」という動詞は、まず「（野菜や果物の）皮をむく、
外皮をはぐ」イメージで覚えるとわかりやすいでしょう。
ex) strip a banana バナナの皮をむく
The hurricane stripped all the trees bare.
ハリケーンで木の葉がすっかり落ちた。
「衣服を脱がせる」という意味もあります。和製英語の
「ストリップ」はこの意味からできた言葉ですね^^;。
ex) She stripped the baby naked.
彼女は赤ん坊の服を脱がせた。
「plagiarize＝盗作・盗用する」はやや難しい単語ですが、より広い
意味の「steal=盗む」を使用した英文記事もありました。
この場合は、「絵そのものを盗み出す」という意味に誤解されない
よう注意が必要です。
和田氏の絵がどれぐらい酷似していたか、というのは、マスコミで
連日取りざたされているのでご存じだと思いますが、一例をあげると

でも、和田氏に本の表紙を依頼したことのある作家の森村誠一さん
などは「和田氏とスギ氏の作品は異なっている」と盗作説を否定して
いるようです。たぶん少数意見だと思いますが^^;
