ここに出てくる「日本アルプス」の由来は、古くは19世紀にさかのぼります。
飛騨山脈を調査したイギリス人鉱山技師ウィリアム・ゴーランド（ガウランド）
が、ヨーロッパのアルプス山脈にちなんで「 日本アルプス」と紹介したのが
由来だそうです。なかなか風流でよい名前ですね。
文中ではあえてそのまま訳しましたが、「Golden Week holidays＝黄金週間」は、
日本の祝日をよく知らない外国人には意味がわからないでしょう。
